 Maritime Career Exploration
WE HAVE NO TRAINING PROGRAMS AT THE PRESENT TIME-CHECK BACK AFTER THE FIRST OF THE YEAR.

Are you interested in working on the waterfront?

Pathways to navigate your future in the maritime industry. This program is an important first step for students 14-20 to learn basic skills necessary to gain employment in the maritime trades. Year long activities include hands on training at CMS Maritime Learning Center™ and on board training vessels. Advanced training and hands on project based learning include boat building and small boat repair. CMS certificate upon completion.

Exploring is Learning for Lifes’s career education program for young people ages 14-20 to gain practical career knowledge and experience and engage in a program of activities centered on career opportunities. Learning for Life, an affiliate of Boy Scouts of America.)

Students meet Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.


The young person will experience a wide variety of maritime activities and tasks, for example:

  • Shipyard Skills Orientation
  •        Basic tool identification/operation
           Welding/Grinding Observation
           Pneumatic tool operation
           Basic electric tool familarization
           Surface prepping and coating
  • Fundamentals in Basic Diesel Engine Ops
  • Woodworking skills
  • Primary Deckhand Training
  • Introduction to Engineering
  • Introduction to Firefighting
  • Naval Architecture Overview
  • Sail Training
  • Intro to celestial navigation
  • The art of rope/knot tying
  • Forklift Operation
  • Basic Rigging and Crane Service
  • Tourism-Charter vessels/events
  • Environmental Stewardship
  • Team Work, Leadership
